At Hastings, torrential rain during the last few days caused anxiety. The Ngaruroro River overflowed its banks at Pukowhai, 'but this had been anticipated and stock was removed to higher ground.—Press Assn. THEATRE DAMAGE. CLAY BANK SLIP. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Damage estimated at several hundreds sterling was caused to Harbour Lights Theatre, yesterday, through a clay bank .at the rear slipping, owing to recent heavy rain, and crushing the back wall of the theatre. The wall, which was of heavy brick, fell on to the stage. The main building was not affected. —Press Assn.
