CEASELESS TURMOIL
SHIP-MANNING CRISIS
BOMBSHELL TOR UNIONS.
FINE OF £500 INVOLVED.
(Received 10.45 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day,
The \acancies caused by the members of the crew of the Esperance Bay handing in their notices were filled without trouble, and the articles do not expire until the vessel returns from Brisbane early in July. It' is thought that a deadlock ■will- then occur.
The attitude which the Commonwealth Line intends to adopt "will be made clear this week, when a crew will be called for to man the Fordsdale, which is due to sail for Britain on Saturday. An unexpected development occurred concerning the holding tip of the steamer Hunter at Mort's Dock when the unions concerned received summonses calling on them to show cause why they should net be ordered "to pay a penalty of £500 for aiding and abetting an illegal strike.—A. and N.Z. WATERSIDE HALT. TIMBER-LOADING DISPUTE. (Received 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Further trouble has occurred on the waterfront owing to the decision of the wa-tersiders that their members would rot load timber direct from vessels to waggons, maintaining that their duties implied only that fhey should stack it on the wharf. One of the vessels affected is the Kaitangata, recntly arrived from New Zealand —A. and N.Z.
