HIKURANGI v. KIRIPAKA.
Hikurangi played Kiripaka at 3 p.m. on No. 3, Kensington. Both teams were very evenly matched and a. fast and'furious game resulted. Kiripaka assumed the offensive early in the game and pressed their opponents very closely. Preston, showing splendid speed and swerve, scored the first try for Kiripaka which, however, was not converted. Several opportunities for further scoring' i>v the Kirikapa forwards were lost owing to wild and erratic passing and a deplorable tendency to footwork instead of organised combination in the orthodox style. At half-time no further score had been added, leaving Kiripaka 3—nil. 'In the second half Hikurangi attacked vigorously and forced the play into their opponents' territory. Trotter scored for Hikurangi, his try being converted by Hamilton. Towards the end of the game, the play degenerated into wild rushes without result, and the score remained at Hikurangi 5, Kiripaka 3. Mr. Hollis was referee.
