DAIRY BOARD POLL

THE CONTROL VICTORY,

Referring to the recent Dairy Control Board election, when interviewed by the "Waikato Times," Mr. William Goodfellew, managing director of the New Zealand Co-operative Oairy Company, Ltd., stated that the results must be regarded as eminently satisfactory. Mr. Grounds and Mr. Motion had both been returned for the Nofth Island with a very substantial majority. In tho South Island, where the proprietary interests predominated, the voting was even more satisfactory. Notwithstanding the fact that both Mr. Hamilton (the retiring member) and Mr. Bryant stood in favour of absolute control and the Board's policy, and in consequence split the votes, Mr. Bryant was returned at the head of the poll. If the South Island votes were an alysed it was seen that 8007 farmers voted. Of this number 5304 voted in favour of the Control Board's policy and 2703 against. The results showed that the South Island farmers were even keener on absolute control than those of the North Island, and a statement to the effect that Mr. Hamilton was opposed by two candidates standing for limited control was quite incorrect. Mr. Robertson was the only candidate representing those in opposition.

Mr. Goodfellow said he had taker, the trouble to have this information confirmed, and had wired to the secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, who had replied as follows:— "Mr. Bryant supports Control Board, also absolute control. Is one of the original movers and strongest supporters in Otago for control. Was a member of Dairy Council, milks cne of the largest herds in Otago and for many years was chairman of the Henley cheese factory and a director of this Association and the Marketing Association. Was supported in this election by chairmen of a majority of Otago co-operative factories."
