BANKRUPTCIES IN MAY
A DECREASE RECORDED
I During the past month forty insolI vencies were registered in New Zealand , as compared with 65 in May last year and 62 in May, 1923. There is a decrease of 25 as compared with last year, and the total of 40 is smaller than in any previous month to December, 1924, when the number of bankruptcies was 37. The figures for each of the past five months compared with those for the corresponding months of 1924 and 1923 show as under:
For the five months there is a decrease of 21 as compared with last year, and a decrease of 32 as compared with 1923. The failures of farmers
are not so conspicuous, as there were only five last month as compared with seven in April and 15 in March. The number of farmers Avho became insolvent during the five months was 45, and labourers accounted for 32.
