MEDIAEVAL HUMOUR

ADDRESS TO GLOOMBUSTERS.

• One of the most successful meetings of the "Gloombusters" yet held took place at the Whangarei Y.M.C.A. Hall on Thursday evening, when a record attendance of 55 men was reached. After the "Anthem" and the club "Dirge" had been sung in the usual lusty manner Dr. Ward gave a, brief outline of the Ambulance Division's effort to raise funds and appealed to the "Busters" to assist in the campaign, an appeal which met with a most enthusiastic response.

Buster G. Stainton,' who occupied the Chief Buster's chair, then declared the meeting open for business, after which supper was served. The "piece de resistance" of the evening was an extremely interesting address by Mr ]£. W. Reed on "Medieval Humour." Mr Reed spoke to a highly appreciative audience 011 humour in the "bad old days," illustrating his points with stories from all quarters. The address was interesting and instructive, and at the conclusion ATr Reed was tendered, with the thanks of the club, a prolonged round of applause. Yoval items were rendered by Busters A. CTUssell and -T. W. Cole, the latter of whom was received with tremendous applause and twice encored. The singing of the "Dirge"

closed a most happy evening
