WAIPU NEWS

MEDICAL CLUB. j Only a small percentage of the members of the Waipu Medical Club at- . tended the annual meeting, when Mr. T. E. McLean, chairman of committeo, presided. The balancc sheet, which was adopted, showed the club to be in a very satisfactory financial position. Messrs D. W. McGregor, D. H. McKenzie and J. E. McLean were appointed to fill three ordinary vacancies on the committee, and Mr. Cuthbert McI Lean was re-elected auditor. At a subsequent meeting of the committeo Mr. J. E. McLean was re-elected chairman, a position which he has now occupied for several years. | FOOTBALL. ! A senior and junior football team journeyed to Batley to play a return match with teams of that district and were each, defeated by substantial margins. | BUILDING ACTIVITY. 1 Building operations are now fairly j active here, the chief being a large } residence being erected by Mr. P. C. i Taylor to replace one destroyed by r fire some 15 months ago, and aii j Anglican church, which is being built ! on Wharf Road on the same side as the bank and close to the bank corner. For close on 40 years the Church of England authorities have owned a section at what is known as the Junction Corner, but not until now has it been deemed necessary to build a church, services generally being held in the hall. The "Corner" has not fulfilled the expectations of 40 years ago, when it was thought that possibly the business part of the district would concentrate around there; hence the decision to acquire the new section on which the church is now being built, owing to it being more suitable. Business now being done at the recently erected bank has necessitated it being open two days (Tuesday and Friday) a week instead of only once as formerly.
