Many Government craft are on watch off the New Jersey coast to prevent the smuggling of liqu'or from the largest rum fleet assembled offshore in a year. The liquor fleet is 42 miles off the coast, slowly moving northward, a 3000-ton steamer leading the procession. Cases of liquor are piled high on the decks. The Government vessels are kept at a distance of a few miles, with the decks cleared for action.
