SINGAPORE SCHEME.
DEPRECATED IN JAPAN. (Received 11.40 a.m.) LONDON. February 8. The Japanese League of Nations Association passed a resolution expressing the opinion that the building of the Singapore base may produce an unfavourable reaction on the traditional Anglo-Japanese friendship and afford a pretext for competitive armaments. The resolution also asserts that the scheme will not harmonise with the spirit of the League and nullifies the effect of the Washington Conference. —A. and N.Z.
