HIKURANGI GUN CLUB.

FIRST-RATE PERFORMANCES,

On Thursday, September 4, a number of members of the Hikurangi Gun Club together with several shootists from the Hukerenui Gun Club assembled on the former club's grounds to participate in a series of sweepstake matches. Each match consisted of five birds, the fields in each case being moderate in number. The day was fine and the birds flew well, giving all marksmen a. good average opportunity of registering a creditable score. No. 1 sweepstake drew a good field, the shooting throughout being of a good standard. Kerr and Bradbury attained the possible, the outcome being a shoot-off which resulted in Kerr winning. No. 2 sweepstake produced the same field as in the previous shoot, Bradbury making a certainty of the issue by again registering a possible and winning. N. 3, still as popular as ever, resulted in another decisive outright win for Bradbury, who again secured the possible, his shooting being consistent and snappy throughout. No. 4 sweepstake match, and the last of the afternoon, drew a field of six, the standard of shooting set in the previous matches being upheld. Two possibles were registered, by Keatley and McKegg, who decided to shoot off for the prize money, resulting in Mr Keatley winning. The visiting members of the Hukerenui Gun Club, which is a comparatively new club, are not in any way deficient in the use of the gun. Bradbury and Keatley shot well throughout all competitions, the former registering 20 kills out of 22 on the afternoon's shooting. The Hikurangi Club is also new to the district and amongst its members there are some promising marksmen, several having possibles already registered on the score sheet. In the near future there is to be a bis? cup shoot amongst the members of the Hikurangi Club, whose members nro getting in no end of practice, as it is anticipated that a large field will be out to contest the first cup shoot the Club has ever held.
