Schedules for the Whangarei A. and P. Society's Spring Show are now practically out of the printer's hands and the farming community throughout the North should make early application. Ehibits for the show should now be in course of preparation and this year it is hoped that another record will be established. Advance the North and write for a schedule to-day. An event of prime importance to the i dairy farm ing community will transi pire on Saturday, September 27, at the /'Crystal Springs," Maungatapere, when a dispersal sale of 24 pedigree Jersey bulls will take place on behalf of Mr. C. Stevens. This sale will provide an opportunity of securing Jersey sires of undoubted constitution, backed up by butter-fat records that are practically unequalled in the Dominion. In reference to the , suggestion that the Wliang.'irei County Council should combine with the Borough Council in providing ;i deviation of the road in the locality of Brewery Bridge to give an improved outlet between the borough and Tikipunga, Cr. J. Morrison, member for Kiripaka riding, said at to-day's meeting of the County Council that the rwling pould nQt Accept responsibility ro bear the cost of the road deviation or a share of the extra bridge at the present time. He could not see how the improvement would warrant the cost so far as the riding was concerned, and he was inclined to notify the borough authorities that the request for co-operation be declined. It was decided, however, on the suggestion of the county chairman, Mr. W. Jones, to refer the matter to Cr. Morrison and the staff to make further investigations and to report. The chairman added that the main feature to be considered was the question of liability in future for the proposed bridge. Wool Specials.—All Shades, 4Ad per skein. The theatre itself remains the same, but the block of offices will, in the meantime, be left out of the building programme. The Onerahi Town Board replied to-day to the inquiry by the Whangarei County Council that it was deemed inadvisable that a quarry should be opened in the public domain at Onerahi, as sought. It was added that in any case the Board doubted whether it had power to grant the application. The letter was received without dis- | cussion. j At last night's euchre touru.-iinert-promoted by the Whangarei Lodge of Druids there was again an excellent attendance. The prize awarded for the ladies' section was won by Mrs Cameron with the record score of 20 games. The prize in the men's section, donated by Bro. F. Holloway, went to Mr P. Heslop with 19 games. J Consolation prizes were gained by Miss Abbott, 7 wins, and Mr D. Heslop, 9 wins.

This morning the Whangarei County Council decided to acquire eight or ten acres of the site offered by Mr. C. H. Reid last month as a site for a metal quarry in the neighbourhood of the Otonga railway station, and about three quarters of a mile from the Main North Road, together with an access roadway. The price was £350 and Mr. Reed had agreed to accept payment after next March. It was left to the engineer and Cr. F. Elliott, member for the Hikurangi riding, who strongly supported the decision, to effect the agreement.

At the special general meeting of the Whangarei branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, "held in the Town Hall supper room on Wednesday evening last, the following executive was elected:—President, Mr J. G. Ford; vice-president, Mr J. Steedman; secretary, Mr S. L, Freeman; treasurer, Mr W. Cole; and Messrs J. Andrews, C. Bates, J. Orme, E. Tp. Sharp and F. Teircel. The most important business transacted was an instruction to the incoming executive to immediately initiate the formation of a Labour Representation Committee for Marsden.

That sentiment plays a big part in life is often exemplified (says the "Timaru Herald , '). At Mr. J. S. Rutherford's clearing sale the four-in-hand coach in which the late Mr. Rutherford drove many notable people around the Mackenxie Country, including a former Governor (Lord Onslow) was sold. The buyer intended to put the historic vehicle (which cost £200 to land in New Zealand, and still looks as good as new), to some practical every-day use, but hearing of tEis Mr. T. D. Burnett, M.P., offered 'him a profit on his bargain, and has secured it to keep as a relic of the early days of Mackenzie Country.
