A DARING ATTEMPT,
SUSPECT GETS AWAY.
AUCKLAND, This Day,
A daring attempt wasi made last night to blow open a safe at Messis Hancock and Co.'s, brewers and spirit merchants, head office. One shot was fired in a large safe, but it failed to open the door, though the lock was shattereu. A smaller safe ~s\as found plugged with gelignite, but the charge had not been fired.
The police were informed that a man was hanging round the offices, and when they went to investigate the man ran away. He had a long start and vanished in the darkness axter .i long chase. —Press Assn.
