Papers tabled in the Assembly Avith reference to the sale of sawmills until recently run as a State enterprise contain some remarkable allegations regarding a poAverful timber combine. According to these allegations tho grip the combine holds on consumers of timber in New South Wales is •.shown by the fact that the New Zealand Government obtains similar timber ae supplied to the New South Wales Railway Commissioners at 3/ to 7/ per 100 feet lower landed at Now Zealand ports than paid by the Commissioners at Sydney.—A. and N.Z.
