EDUCATION BOARD.

NORTHERN BUSINESS. At the meeting of the Auckland Education Board this week the following matters concerning North Auckland schools were dealt with: — The board received a recommendation from the inspector in favour of the erection of a residence at Glenbervia School. It was decided to apply to the department for a grant, the matter being represented as urgent. . A request for enlargement of thy residence at Kara was declined. A proposal for consolidation of schools at Kawakawa was not entertained. A request for enlargement of th 1 school at Okai'hau East or consolidation of schools in the district was referred to the inspector for a report. A letter urging the establishment of a household school at Orakau (Kaikohe) was referred to the inspector. Notification was received from t!ie department of a grant for acquisition of a 3iew school site and the erection of a. new school building at Ruapekapeka. The head teacher at Waipu Central renewed his request for the acquisition of a new site and the erection of a, new school, but the Board decided to renovate the present building. The Whau Valley Committee (Whangarei) forwarded an estimate of the cost of improvements to the schoolground and asked for the acquisition' of an area of lij- acres as an addition to the school site. The question was referred to the advisory inspector, and the architect. A grant of £33 for the improvement of the residence at Maungatapere was agreed to, and also a grant of £8 for drainage at Tauraroa. The sum of £5 was voted to tho Hukeronui South School Committee for the purchase of a cupboard for t'he school library.
