TEN PER CENT. DEPOSIT. BESTS WITH THE BOARDS. (Special to "Northern Advocate. ,, ) WELLINGTON, This Day. In the House yesterday afternoon Mr R. Masters (Stratford) asked the Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, whether it was the policy of the Lands Department to demand that an applicant for a soldier's abandoned section should put down 10 per cent, deposit on the capital value of the land.

The Minister replied that it was not the policy to fix 10 per cent in oil cases where abandoned sections were put up to auction. He. believed that the Department had carried out the policy of fixing , 10 per cent., otherwise applications were subject to investigation by the Land Board and if satisfactory proof could be produced of the ability of the soldier to successfully fano the land the 10 per cent, deposit was not always asked for.
