Mr W. U. Tiniewell, Deputy Mayor, arrived back from Wellington yesterday and will report to the Whangarei Borough Council on Monday evening upon the result of his interview with the Auditor-General concerning the tag to the balance sheet of the Council. Sub-Inspector Hollis has completed his term of office in Whangarei and leaves for Wellington to-night to report for duty. When he has succeeded in securing a house in the Empire City ho will return to Whangarei to superintend removal operations. The death occurred yesterday in Christchurch of Mr Sidney Vaughan, who in pre-war days was in business in Whangarei as a grain merchant and general agent. The late Mr Vaughan married a daughter of Mr W. H. Gillespie, Whangarei county inspector.

Mr J. D. McKenzie has received advice concerning the Auckland Education Board election results to the effect that Mr Richard Hoe, of Rewiti, Kaipara, has secured representation for the North Ward rural area, the other candidate being Mr Alfred Gregory, of Dargaville. This election was necessitated by the elevation of Mr V. H. Reed to the Legislative Council. For the Auckland urban area (three seats) Messrs G. Brownlie and j T. W. Wells, of Remuera, and Mr H. S. W. King, of Devonport, have been reelected, the fourth candidate being Mr J. Collins, of Takapuna. Other sitting members who retired by rotation and were re-elected unopposed wers Messrs F. A. Snell (Hamilton urban urea), A. Burns (East Ward of rural area) and J. Patterson (West Ward of rural area).
