CITY NOTES.
WATER BOARD WANTED. SUPPLIES FROM WAIKATO. (Special to "Northern Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. The suggestion for the formation of a Metropolitan Water Board has been receiving much attention in the city lately. At the preeent time the various local bodies which constitute Auckland and its suburbs are drawing their supplies from various sources and the payments of one to the other are becoming somewhat complicated. To secure uniform working it has been found necessary to form a Tramway, Electric Power and Drainage Board in the city and the logical outcome is the formation also of a Water Board, which would control the supplies to all local bodies and allocate costs accordingly. So far as can be judged at present the establishment of the board Js very desirable, both in the way of economising administrative costs and providing for efficiency. But one of the main features of the proposal appears to be that not only electricity, bul water also, shall be supplied from the great Waikato River. Of course, t'i(? scheme is yet in embryo, but local authorities are showing no hesitation whatever about endorsing "the proposal for a board which will be able to represent. united interests. SCHOOL AND OTHER MATTERS. During the past week Mr J. D. McJOnzie has been in town on Education Board business. In response to an "Advocate" reporter Mr McKenzie said that there was nothing ne-v to report in connection with the new Whangarei High School, but he hoped while in Wellington to bring many other matters under the notice of the Government, lie will be there in connection with tho New Zealand conference arranged by harbour boards, and can be relied npon to make one or two other applications for recognition of the North.
