LONG DURATION. UNUSUAL VIOLENCE. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 26. Most violent earthquake shocks arc reported in several world centres. At Paenza, Italy, the record of a shock received at the Bemlnndis Observatory bognn at 3 o'clock n the mor.Ymg a>t?. lasted four hours. It -o have occurred 7000 miles away. SOUTH AFRICAN RECORD. (Received 9 a.m.) CAPETOWN, June 26. The record of an earthquake shock registered at the Royal Observatory lasted two and a half hours, beginning at 3.50 a.m., apparently f>6oo miles off. —Reuter. RIVERVIEW CORRECTION. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Riverview Observatory explains that a mistake was made in centring yesterday's earthquake record at Port Moresby through hasty reading of the machine. The real position was south of Macquarie Island, 17.40 miles from Sydney. The disturbance was very violent and continued for over half an hour, one instrument vibrating so much that it kept hitting against the stops. —A. and N.Z.
