MEDIC AiL CIAJB. The I.lth annual mooting of the Wfripu Medical Club was fairly well attended and was presided over by Mr Angus McLennan, in the absence of the chairman, Mr J. R. McLean, through illness. The members expressed their sympathy and best wishes for Mr McLean's speedy recovery. The Whangarei Hospital Board notified that it had appointed Miss I. McLeod as district nurse for a further term of six months from June 30, subject to the approval of the club. The members unanimously approved of the appointment. The balance-sheet, which showed a very satisfactory state oc the financial affairs of the club, was adapted, subject to the approval of the auditor, it not having been audited owing to the auditor having left the district. The following were elected to fill four ordinary vacancies on the committee: —Messrs A. McLennar., JNT. and A. McMillan and M. D. Sutherland. Mr Cuthbert McLean was elected auditor. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. At the quarterly sitting , of the Magistrate's Court h»ld last week Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., presided and was accompanied on the bench by Mr A. J. McLean, a lad wh>. failed to register for military service when of age, was prosecuted by the Defence Department, and explained that lie did not know it was necessaiy to register but that he had since registered and had been to a military training , camp. The Magistrate accepted the explanation and pointed out that ignorance of the necessity to register was no excuse. In this case he would deal leniently nnd order the defendant to pay 12s costs.
