DUMMY NOTES.
WHOLESALE FRAUD. TREASURY VICTIMISED. (Received 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. It is believed that an extensive fraud has been perpetrated in the note issue department involving a loss to the department of many thousands of pounds.
The Treasury officials are reticent, but it is understood that a quantity of old bank notes which should have been cancelled and destroyed were abstracted, dummy bundles being substituted and the genuine notes circulated.—A.. and N.Z.
