STOLEN WATCH RECOVERED.
REFORMATIVE TREATMENT FOR THIEF. A young man named Harry Thomas pleaded guilty at the Whangarei Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr R. W. Tate, S.M., to the theft on April 19 of' a gold watch valued at £19, the property of Ernest Hedley. Senior-Sergeant Hollis said that when a dance was being hold in the Madeira Hall in Rust Lane on the date in question accused, who had been hanging libout, had seized an opportunity and iiad taken the watch from a coat that was hanging on. a peg on the wall of the dressing room. The watch had been recovered when accused was arrested. On three former occasions accused had been charged with theft and had previously been placed on probation. Senior-Sergeant Hollis considered that accused was a bit weak in intellect and suggested that reformative treatment might do him good.
The Magistrate convicted accused and sentenced him to reformative treatment for a period not exceeding 12
months.
