SHOW AND SALE

The first national show and sale of pedigree dairy cattle took place at the Epsom Show Grounds, Auckland, on i'riday, and \yas a wonderful success.

In the Jersey classes the bull Ku Ku Major, 11,165, won the Grand National Championship, and was subsequently bought by Mr A. E. Phillips, of Maunu, for 270 guineas. The full sister of this bull produced over 6001bs of butter-fat as a two-year-old, and his mother died under test. Ku Ku Major, described es the greatest bull of recent years, already had to his credit eight first prizes, his win at the National Show making the ninth! He has met and defeated every yearling worthy of the name at such great Jersey showls as Carterton, Palmerston North, Stratford, New Plymouth, Woodville and Dannevirke. This young bull is fit to head any herd in the Empire. The North is very fortuimte indeed in getting this young animal and Mr ; Phillips. is to be .congratulated on his., enterprise jn buying him. Mr B. L. Horn, of Manukau, was the breeder.

The second prize was won by Blonde 's Goldon Sultan, bred by Mr E. Griffiths, of New Plymouth. He was sold for 127 guineas, the buyers being Messrs Mcars Bros., of Walton.

Mr Alex. Christie's bull Idalia's Prince won third prize, and was sold to Messrs Rolleston Bros, for 75 s guineas. Other bulls sold were Mr H. Housego Phillips' Jersey Meadow's Prince, which was was knocked down at 46 guineas, and Mrs A. Banks and Sons' Woodstock Bullfinch, at 57 guineas. I In the class for females two yearsold and over on July 1, 1923> the p.laeinrjs and sales were as follows:-— Alice Chase, vendor W. J. Hall, Matatoki, first prize; sold to Mr Shepherd, of Otahuhu, for 80 guineas. Rioter Chase, vendor W. J. Hall, Matatoki, second prize; sold to Mr Shepherd, Otahuhu, 50 guineas^ Grafton Sunshine, vendor E. L. Robinson, third prize: sold to Mr Bowlan, 64 guineas. The following are similar details of the class for females under two years on July 1, 1923:— Hua Brook Rexic, vendor H. Salway, first prize; sold for 155 guineas. Woodstock's Fanlight, vendors Mrs A. Banks and Sons, second prize; sold for 100 guineas to Mr J. Steven, Hokianga. Jersey Meadow's Empress, vendor H. Houscgo Phillips, third prize; sold to Mr Wilson, Putaruru, for 61 guineas. Other sales were as follows:— Majestic's Princess, heifer, It. Salwny, Taranaki, purchaser W. Kemp, Onehunga, price 88 guineas. Silver Glance, heifer, vendor H. Salway, purchaser Bracken Bros., price 105 guineas.

Hua Brook Nevis, heifer, vendor H. Salway, purchaser Bracken Bros., price 90 guineas.

Fancy Dress, heifer, vendor H. Salway, purchaser Mr Blakey, price 104 guineas.

Woodstock Feeria, heifer, vendor Mrs A. Banks and Sons, purchaser A. E. Wfltkins, 60 guinegas.

Orange Dale's Lass, cow, vendor W, J. Hall, Matatoki, price 40 guineas.

In the Friesian section there was a particularly fine display of heifers, and many of them evoked keen competition under the hammer.
