CARPENTERS AND JOINERS.
DOMINION AWARD
HOURS AND WAGES FIXED.
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The first Dominion award under the legislation passed in 1922 was made to-day by the Arbitration Court, when its decisions in connection with the carpenters and joiners' dispute recently heard in Wellington were filed. There are 2500 employers attached as parties. The matters referred to the Court were wages, overtime, suburban work, country work, preference and exemptions in the memorandum attached to the award.
Mr Justice Fraser dealt With these very fully. Mr Scott, employers' representative. disagreed with his Honour and Mr Hunter, workers representative, in increasing the wages of carpenters on outside jobs by three-farth-ings per hour above the standard rate for skilled workers. The hours are to be 44 per week and the minimum wage for carpenters and joiners and joiners' machinists 2/2$ per hour for outside workers and 2/1J for factory workers.
The award comes into force on August 6 and operates for two years.— Assn.
