The amount of unemployment among -• carpenters in Gisborne lias been somewhat reduced recerltly from two causes (says the "Times"), first that there • has been a slight improvement in' the building trade within the last few weeks, but : perhaps, because ' many more carpenters, have left the distriet. Most of these : .more recent '' emigrants have stated that they have no intention of returning, and so are pennancntly lost as residents of the town.
