WHANGiAREI CLUB FOURS FINAL. The final game in the Club Fours competition was played on Hhe Whangarei Bowling Club's green yesterday afternoon between C. Gunson, W. Beehre, S. Gribble and P. Judd (skip), winners of the Saturday section, and O. Stout, S. Simpson, T. Dick and V. Beeston (skip). This proved a most interesting game, which required An extra head to decide the issue. Both teams played well and sometimes even brilliantly, in spite of a heavy green, due to rain. Beehre played particularly well. Judd opened the scoring account first and after the 7th head led 'by 13—2. A one and two .fours to Beeston followed, reducing Judd's lead to 13—11. Then Judd scored 2 on the 11th head and 4 on the 12th, making his lead 19—12. In n!i the next eight beads, however, Beeston scored, and before playing the 21 s f , head he had assumed the lead by 22—19, . .Tudd, with & good shot on the 2Jst head, scored three and equalised the scores, Ths e>- + ra head ;*vas well contested, Stout npcl Simons getting bpv,ls very handy io the jack, but Gribble drew a beauty. Dick, frith his second bowl, succeeded in opening tho head, *»ut leaving shot; in favour of Judd. Beeston, with his second bowl, hit the shot bowl hard, .but luck was against him,, for it struck the nearest wood full on .and stopped dead, still shot. Judd's J earn thus woti by 23—22.
In the champion pairs competition, E. A. .Simmons and W. J. Orr (skip) bent ,T. Tremnin and F. Coburn by 24—18, winning the Thursday section. They will play P. JudJ and J. Donaldson, winners of the Saturday section. The play-off for Section A of the Oup Pairs competition resulted in F. Eccles and A. Englund (skip.) beating J. Maurer and T. Midileton (skip) by 38—14. Scores were 11 all on the 13th head and Middleton led by 14 —11 after the 16th, but v Englund then scored" on tijje remaining five heads and won. The winners will play C. O. Roscoc and J. Courtne (skip), winners of the B section.
