RUTHLESS REGIME
ANTI-CHRISTIAN SOVIET. PATRIARCH'S TRIAL. ELABORATELY STAGED. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, April 18. The "Times' " Riga crrespondent states that the Soviet, which is carefully staging the trial of Archbishop Tikhon, has circularised all Bishops urging them to summon local conferences and demand his degradation and excommunication as am enemy to the Soviet Government, established by the grace of God. Priests failing to declare their hostility to the Patriach and sympathy with the Soviet will be dismissed. The "Daily Mail's" Warsaw correspondent says that the conviction and execution of Archbishop Tikhon is considered certain. Krylenko, Soviet Public Prosecutor, has issued a warning against foreign intervention. Even supplication for pardon will cense the Soviet, which is determined to crush Christianity in Russia as an interference with the Soviet regime.— A. and N.Z.
