DAVIS TENNIS CUP.
k AUSTRALIA STANDS DOWN. (Received 1 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Australian Tennis Council has' decided, in consequence of Patterson. ' Anderson and Wood being unavailable, it will not send an Australian team for the Davis Cup contest. It is understood that the council held that unless the team were able to reach the challenge iie the financial burden would be too heavy to justify sending a team away, and the material available was not class enough to qualify for the finals.—A. and N.Z.
