FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
ARGENTINE ADVANTAGE
CONCLUSIVELY EXPLAINED
(Received noon)
BRISBANE, This Day.
The Premier states that the situation of the meat industry is grave. The outlook for cattlemen who have larg? numbers ready to kill, as a result of ths good season, is gloomy.
He explains in an official report why Argentine meats are sold at higher rates in London than is Australian meat. Argentine cattle, he says, are killed when two years old and Australian cattle when four years old. The former, therefore, are of better marketable quality. Argentine cattle are fatter and carry a larger proportion of flesh. They are also a shorter time in cold storage and the deterioration is consequently less than of Australian, frozen beef.—A. and N.Z. '
