(Received 1.40 p.m.)
CAPETOWN, Jan. 29,
As a result of the failure of the c:niference the Industrial Federation is tightening the regulations against free 'labour. The Chamber of Mines has announced its new terms, which arc much more • drastic than those formerly offered, involving the* reduction of the ratio of ! Europeans to natives; reduction of '.ho ■ cost of living allowance by 50 por ■cent now and its entire abolition six •anonths hence; and no guarantee of the : 18-employment of all strikers.
There is a rumour that the Federation intend to retort with the declaration of a general strike. The outlook as regarded as grave.—A. and N.Z.
