A picnic party of 19 persons were in a motor launch on Lake Tyers when the engine back-fired. The women became alarmed and crowded to the stern, the vessel capsizing. Three men—Messrs Dan-ell Ray (Acting Deputy Commissioner of Taxation), Alex. Finkiv ami John Barke—'were drowned—A. and N.Z.
