"INSULT TO AMERICA."
WASHINGTON, Jan. 25,
Mr W. E. Borah, speaking in a debate in the Senate on the Foreign Debts Refunding Bill, declared that the Allies, by revising the Versailles Treaty, and reducing thdr armies even to a reasonable extent, could meet interest payments on their debts to the United States, and retire part of the principal. He added: "I maintain it is an insult to the American people to ask them to forego longer the collection of money that will be used for purposes destructive, not only to the peacc of Emopc but of the whole world. No man under the present policy, and under the existing treaties in Europe, can foretell when these nations can begin to pay interest. The danger in Europe lies in the apparent effort to destroy Germany."—A. and N.Z.
