Owing to the inclemency of the weather and the lateness of the 'hour in starting several of the event* could not be run, but it was fortunate that the Innoieap races could be got through. Spteial mention might be rprule of the interest taken in the boysrace for the gold medal. There were only nine competitors. The winner, Jack Ravnor, was on scratch anl put up a very fine effort. He was seconded by Jack McTvo.own, a much shorter who came off-the 18-vard mark, and had the race been for 220 yards insteai of 200 MeKeown stood a fair of winning. Both the lads were intently keen, and that added the event, which might be considt+ed the race of the day. : Alton Shepherd, the winner j of the One Mile Handicap, is also to; be congratulated. He is a lad of ajbout 16, and started off the limit of 130 yards. It was his first effort at running and he made a splendid performance, maintaining a steady pace right .through, coming in an easy first., Thc*e seems to be great promise for young man, and a likelihood that has a future as an athlete. 1 The special thanks of the cocmmittee pro flue' to Mr V. E. Ricldt J for his handsome donation of £20, out of which the cup was provided, and to "ft'tr W. J. Dunn for providing the gold medal.
