ALL RED CABLES
A PAYING PROPOSITION.
PACIFIC DUPLICATION MOOTED
(Received 11.45 a.m.)
LONDON, Dec. 1.
The "Times" says that, as a result of the great increase in the use of the All Bed cables, proposals are under official consideration for the duplication of the Pacific section. Over 9,000,000 paying words have been transmitted this year, mare than double the number of transmissions before the war. The estimated cost of the duplication is between £3,000,000 and £4,000,000. Various alternatives are suggested to reduce the cost, notably between Fanning Island and Honolulu, and linking up with the American cables, but this is contrary to the basic idea of the All Bed cable. —"Times."
