USES WINCHESTER RIFLE

YOUTHFUL MARRIAGE INCIDENT.

DUNEDIN, This Day.

An unfortunate sequel to the marriage of a youthful pair occurred at i Milton last night. It appears that a 'youth named Ashley Perry, aged 16, ! and a girl named Milligan,. aged 17, I both residents in Milton, were married |on Tuesday afternoon. The girl had obtained lier father's consent to the marriage, but apparently the girl's mother and brothers were not informed that the marriage was to take place.

Last night one of the. brothers, Arthur Milligan, armed with a Winchested repeating rifle loaded with twelve cartridges, went to the residence of Ashley Perry's uncle and aunt and fired at Perry, who was standing at the gate. The bullet struck him on the second finger of the right hand. His screams brought other outside, and Ashley Perry, senior, father of' the youth, rushed to close with Milligan, who fired again, the bullet entering Perry senior's shoulder.

Milligan attempted to fire further shots, but the rifle apparently jammed. He bolted, but was subsequently arrested.—Press Assn.
