ARBUCKLE TRIAL.
PERJURY CHARGE INSTITUTED
INCOMPATIBLE EVIDENCE.
(Received 10 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, Nov, 2<J. To-day was a mixed one at the At* buckle trial.
Mrs Neighbours, a witness for the defence, testified that on a certain day in .August, 1921, Miss Eappe was/takea. ill in a certain hotel.
The prosecution produced evitlenee showing that she was never in the hotel. The prosecution immediately swore an affidavit charging the witness with perjury and threatened the same charge against other of the defence's witnesses.
Various other cross-cuTrents of ' con* flict occurred between .the two -sides concerning the' character of the witnesses. Mrs Fox of Chicago testified that she Lad known Miss Eappe since the latter was five years old and never saw her take a drink. Miss Eappe was never sick in any way and witness never saw her tear* her clothes.
Dr. Latour, who knew Miss Eappe-*H physical condition, testified that she had a healthy appearance, but a fceurotic temperament.—A. and N.Z.
