TROUNSON'S PARK.

A FINE CEREMONY,

The opening of Trounson's Park, Northern Wairoa, yesterday was a most succcesful function, a large party of guesls from other centres and residents in the Northern Wairoa going out from Dargaville by train and motor. The arrangements far the gathering were made by 'the Northern Wairoa Scenic Club, and the president of that organisation, Mr A. E. Harding, carried them out most capably. Luncheon was served at the Park, and Mr Trounson then handed the deeds of ithe property to the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Jellicoe, who was accompanied by Lady Jellicoe and other distinguished visitors. Mr Trounson and his Excellcncy made thoroughly appropriate' speeches, and the large gathering was also addressed by Sir Francis Bell, Sir Edwin Mitchelson and the Hon. George Fowlds. Trounson's Kauri Park, as it is to be officially known, comprises 950 acres, of which Mr Trounson gave 50 acres, including some of the fines* kauri bush in the Dominion. Altogether the property has cost the Government £40,000, and the timber given by Mr Trounson is estimated to be worth £80,000. His very generous gift ho 1; resulted in the provision of a magnificent national park for the Dominion.
