ANOTHER SLIP
IX WAIKIETvIE TUNNEL
MEN ESCAPE LUCKILY,
The "Advocate's" Waikiokic correspondent reports that another collapse occurred in the Waikiekie railway tunnel at 4 a.m. yesterday, but on
I this oecasion 110110 of tho men were involved in the mishap r.s tliey were fortunately outside the tunnel :it the time passing their short "crib" period. Had they been at work when the. slip took place it is certain that some of ih.M.! would have been counted as casualties of more or less character. A regrettable pha.-' 1 . " the incident, however, is that 11n* interior concreting wns within 17 feet of completion and it had been exprcted that, the work would terminate to-day. With the necessity of clearing away the debris that expectation cannot bo realised for about a week. The collapse was due entirely to the treacherous nature of the country picrccd-and in no way the fault of any of the staff
or men engaged.
