RELIGIOUS FRICTION
CATHOLICS AND PROTESTANTS INDIAN RIOTS. (Received 9.15 a.m.) DELHI, April 24. Serious religiou s rioting occurred at Alanthol, in the Madras Presidency, betiween Catholics and Protestants. In recent years it is stated that a number of Catholics have turned Protestant, causing an annual source of strife. During the Catholic Epiphany procession an armed crowd followed, in which Catholic houses were burned, and one Catholic clubbed to death. Hi s assailant was sentenced to death at Tinnevellr.—A. and N.Z.
