As a curtain-raiser the Past and Present school match was played, the past boys proving the winners after a hard-fought game by 12 points to 6. , - The big match was somewhat de-layed,-but a start wag made about 3.30 p.m. At first the Whangaruru team were beating the local pack for the ball inithe scrums, but their passing lacked finish and scores were lost by the poor handling by 'the backs. A change in the Hikurangi pack in the front row in the second half improved matters considerably. Several really good passing rushes were indulged in and at the finish of the game Hikurangi had scored 27 points to Whangaruru's 3. Mr P. McDonald had control of the whistle.
