FRANTIC SCENES

IN ITALIAN CHAMBER.

ATTEMPTED < STRANGLING.

(Received 9.'R a.m.)

ROME, Dec J9.

The Socialists iv th-3 Chamber accused the Government of partiality during the fatal encounter at Lucca between Socialists and Nationalists. The Under-Secretary's reply was deemed unsatisfactory. After an attempt to rush the Government benches Signorf Serrati, a Socialist, endeavoured to strangle another deputy, but the latter foiled him. The sitting was suspended, and Signor Giolitti ultimately restored order. Disabled ex-service men made violent dmonstrations in the precincts of Parliament and insisted on the immediate passing of tho Increased Pensions Bill. Thereupon the Chamber resolved on an all-night sitting with a view to complying with the demand. —A. and N.Z.
