TE PUA DOMAIN.

QUESTION OF CONTROL

KAMO BOARD'S CLAIM

. Messrs Jounneaux and W. Wakelin. waited upon the Whangarei County Council on Friday in reference to the Te Pua Domain of 10 acres which adjoins th e Kamo Springs. <c Mr Jounneaux explained that at Kamo ther e was no recreation ground and consequently the Kamo Town Board had wanted a year ago to sell the piec c of la nd and use the money so derived to buy an area for a domain nearer to Kamo. Personally Mr Jounneaux said he * was not in * av ~ our of that, but he had heard that there was a proposal to hand over the 10 acres to the Hospital Board and h e thought vhat unfair. The board seemingly had enough to look after already and in his own opinion the Hospital Board, th 6 Kamo Town Board and the Count yCouncil should combine in control of the reserve. However, as Kamo had no recreation ground he thought that the Kamo people were entitled to it as a do- ' ? main. Mr Wakelin supported the application on the grounds that the Kamo Town Board could at least utilise th e land which was lying there, and in any case could not do worse with it than the County Council had done, as it had merely been left to become overgrown with weeds. Cr. Mclnnes objected to Mr Wakelin's statement that the Domain was overrun with weeds, and ho declared that he would fight for it as a hospi. tal endowment. Cr. Hodge obtained an explanation that the Council could not sell or giv c the property away to any party, to which the county chairman added that th e Kamo Town Board really | only wanted a share in its control, i Mr Jounneaux emphasised the point that there was no desire that the j Council should sell the area; the board merely wished to have control of it as being the body best suited to do so. Cr. Mclnnes then admitted that he had-misunderstood Mr Jounneaux. He was opposed to any move to sell the domain or exchange it for any other land, but he would fall into line with Mr Jounneaux' views. Rather than have it sold he would endeavour to hand it over to the Hos- I pital Board. Th e chairman said he was not agreeable to losing complete control of the area, but was willing to allow partial control to the board. To hand it over to anybody would mean that the Council would Possibly have to buy in futur e what it was giving away. He was quite Willing, however, to share th e domain with the. Kamo' Town Board, but not to lose control of it, and Cr. Currey concurred in his views. It was then decided, to-leave further discussion of the subject over nntil the February meeting of the council.
