The usual rush of legislation and pro r traeted sittings of the 1 Assembly at the tail-end of tHo Session have been responsible for scenes of unseemly disorder and disgraceful recrimination. The Government fowed a BiU breaking up largo estates through committee in a physically exhausted House, The Bill provides for the taking over of the greater paTt of holders * land for longdated bonds, carying 4£ per cent. The Opposition claimed that as the bonds were worth only 66 per cent, of their face value it meant disaster to the holders, the pressure by financial institutions throwing «uch land out of occupation. —A. and N.Z.
