The Hon. J. G. Gordon Coates, Public Works Minister, > passed through Whangarei by car yesterday morning from Dargaville, en route for Rawene, Mangonui and Kaitaia. He will arrive in Whangarei again to-morrow. Dr. Helen Bakewell, who has resigned from the staff of the Whangarei Hospital, intends to leav e for Wellington to-morrow where she will spend a short holiday befor e taking up her position as house, surgeon at the Palmerston North hospital. Miss Violet Walrond (swimmer), Messrs Darcy Hadfleld (sculler), and George Davidson (runner), Auckland members of the New Zealand representatives who competed at the Olympic Games, accompanied by Mr C. B. Walrond (manager), returned to the city on Saturday and were accorded a hearty civic reception at the Town Hall. With a view to health recuperation the Hon. Sir William Herries will leave for England next "month by the Arawa. His departure will probably involve the resignation of his Cabinet portfolios of Customs, Labour and Nativ e Affairs, but not of his seat as a member of the House for the Tauranga constituency, which will be looked after during his absence by the member for Rotorua,- Mr F. F. Hockly.
