Intending passengers to Auckland by Thursday's steamer for the Christmas vacation were informed this morning that practically all tho regular berths had been booked. The McGregor Bowling Banner at present held by Whangarei was played for in Hikurangi oh Saturday and resulted in its still being retained in Whangarei. The play on both sides was of sterling order. In beautiful the Mairtown Tennis Club tried conclusions with the Hikurangi club on Saturday, the result being in favour of the former by I 3 sets to 11 and 109 games to 104, which shows that tjiere is' very little difference between the two. Amongst aquatic sportsmen locally a movement has been made to institute adoption of the 14ft. one-design class of sailing "boat, which has become so popular in Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand. A eanyass was made amongstt yachtsmen to ascertain what support the movement would get, and the results were so promising that orders for two boats of th c class have been plaiced in the hands off the (builder to form a nucleus for a fleet of that.size.

j A report to hand to-day states that a conference of employees and employers is to be held in Auckland to-morrow morning, on the bonus and otner subsidiary questions as affecting the cement works in th e North. Mr D. T. Forbes, Who has been dele? gated to act as the f Northern workers' representative by a Portland resojuion, left by the'Kahieri this afternoon and in tho course of a, statement to an "Advocate" associate said that he felt confident of an adjustment being effected without recourse to any extreme measures, and that meantime work was being carried on at ordinary capacity. The upshot of the proceedings will probably appear in the issue of to-morrow's "Advocate."'
