A LEAKY ROOF.
HOSPITAL BOARD'S DILEMMA
At-Monday's meeting of the Whangarei Hospital Board an 'account of £58 2s 6d due to the architect for services rendered in connection with the building of one new ward'was passed for payment. The chairman said this account had been kept back because the tiling had been unsatisfactory. The architect had given the builder a certificate on which th e ibtfard had to pay out, but the roofing had not been satisfactory. They then sent for .Messrs Winstone, Ltd., the manufacturers of the tiies who, after an inspection, hiad laid the blame on the plumbers. Shiice some packing had (been put in there had been no trouble. The (Board had no redress agamst the builder as he was in possession of the architect's certificate. !M;esrs Wdnstone's account was for £18. Mr Steele stated that they had done wrong in getting Winstone's, Ltd., to come up. Mr Jones: Yes, you laid yourselves bare there. 'Mr (Steele : We wdll watch it in the future. Mr Carter moved that both accounts ibe passed. He said that he could not see w hat else they could do. Mr Kerr, in seconding, said he also was of opinion that nothing else could be done. They would have to proteict themselves in the future. Mr A. <G. Mackenzie: The trouble is that the cetrifteate was given before the flood came." The motion was carried.
