Messrs W. S. Short, R. P. Grille and W. R. McKean constitute a commission which, has been set up to investigate th e proposed formation of a new county, denominated Akarana, as distinct from Waitemata County. , The following appointments to the tutorial staff of the Auckland Uni, versi'ty College have been made.— Mr William Anderson, M.A., of Glasgow, chajr of, philosophy; Mr P. W. Burbridge, n M.Sc., N.?., and B.A. Cantab, chair of physics j Mr W. S. Gray, 8.A., 8.E., Trinity Dublin, lecturer in civil engineering: The date has not yet been definitely fixed for the visit to Whangarei of his Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Jellicoe, but it is likely to take place early in the New Tear. For the next six months the Governor-General ■will be in residence at Government House in Auckland, night Viscount Jellreoe wilTpresent the prizes» at a ceremony in. eoacectioii witt the Auckland Boys' Grammar School, and on Friday night he and Lady Jellicoe will be entertained at an "at home" by the Mayor and Mayoress of.
