CRUISER FOR NEW ZEALAND
WELLINGTON, This Day.
An Admiralty message concerning the New Zealand .acquisition. of .the cruiser Chatham stated". "On the occasion of the departure of the Chatham the Board of Admiralty -wishes to congratulate the Govemor-iGenier.al and tlhe Government on the addition of this modem cruiser to the New Zealand naval force. It is matter for special satisfaction to the Board that she commences her career under their auspices at a tim e when such ia distinguished naval officer is Governor-Gen-eral of that .great dominion." Hiis Excellency has sent, the following reply: "My Government and ( I greatly appreciate the message of congratulation sent by the Board on ( th c occasion of the departure of the Chatham. The presence of this ship in New Zealand waters will foster the sea spirit amongst rtfli© people of the Dominion and form a link in of tfhe Empire's- naval strength. I beg to add my .personal thanfes for the kind reference to myself,—Jellicoe."—Press Assn.
