Sixty tins of opium valued at £1200 Was seized at the Central Railway Station (Sydney) recently by the Customs authorities. The opium was the property of two Chinese, whose identity is unknownj Just before the departure of the Melbourne express they entered the luggage office with two suitcases, and made some request which, however, was not .understood by the attendant who called a porter. The porter picked up one of the suitcases, and finding it particularly heavy informed its owners that it would have to .go an excess luggage; at the game time picking up the second suitcase he walked towards the counter to put labels on them. The intention of the porter was misunderstood by the Chinese, who immediately made off. This aroused the suspicions of the porter, and. the Customs authorities were informed; Searching the two suitcases they found that each contained 30 tins of opium.
