PROVISION FOR GIRLS,

Further provision for continuation classes for giris up to the age of eighteen years wa ssuggested to the Minister of Education in a question which Dr. A. IC. Newman (Wellington East) asked in the House of Representatives last week. Dr. Nowonan said he had been asked by a number of ladies to bring the matter up. The age mentioned was an important one in the life of a girl and it would be a verygreat advantage if there could be continuation schools.

The Hon. J. A. Hanan (Invercargill): That has been altered. It is a matter for tho Government and not for the eommittec§:.

There was one consideration, however, affecting the extension of the age. There mast be the buildings and the teachers. The problem, it appeared to him ,was not so difficult as some people thought, It was engaging the attention of.the Department at the present time and he hopp(l to be able to make a c-tatcment on it setting forth the policy of the, Go-

vernment
