THAMES v. SOUTH ISLAND.
Notwithstanding heavy rain about 1500 spectators witnessed the match between the South Island touring team and the combined Thames and Goldfields representatives at Thames on Wednesday. In spite of the greasy ball and slippery ground the garni was very fast. Thames scored in the first few minutes' play and again towards half-time. Nellson dropped a pretty goal for the visitors, making the score: Thames 6, South Island 4, at the interval. With a strong wind in their favour Thames set the pace in the second spell, putting on another 11 points to their opponents' five. The conditions made back play practically impossible. South Island were attacking strongly at the call of time, when the score stood: Thames 17, South Island 9.
